In collaboration with goldsmith Katja Höltermann CARL MERTENS created this award-winning design (it took the 'Design Preis Schweiz Award' for industrial design in 2001 and the 'BAYRISCHEN STAATSPREIS für Nachwuchsdesign').

This seemingly asymmetrical 'drinking bowl' adjusts according to the amount of liquid it contains.
Empty, the stainless steel tumbler tilts to one side, when filled, it aligns horizontally with the flat surface beneath.

This is how BALANCE visualizes its filling level and at the same times makes refilling easy.

The twin-layered hollow chamber enables BALANCE to insulate both cold and hot liquids and thus commends itself for a manifold of drink enjoyments.
