For over 150 years now the German Christmas baubles, historically originating from Thuringia and Upper Franconia, have been delighting the hearts all over the world. Passed on from generation to generation, this annual tradition awakes warm childhood memories when the families gather around the richly decorated Christmas tree to celebrate the contemplative season together.

Before the Christmas tree baubles conquered the world, trees were usually decorated with candy ornaments, fruit and nuts. However, fruit, mainly apples were scarce then and in the cold winter months only accessible to the prosperous, who first started to gold plate them and later on replaced them with pompous, silver plated glass baubles.

In the year of 1870 it was Justus Liebig from Morgenstern near Gablonz, who invented the art to silver coat to the inside of the hollow glass body. A great export success of the noble glass baubles followed, especially to the USA.

To this day the old German custom of decorating Christmas trees with glass baubles in a large variety of shapes has spread round the globe.

Together with the 'Oberfränkische Glas und Spielzeug GmbH' we introduce this contemorary interpretation of a German ritual with a rich tradition - modern jewels with a long history for the Christmas tree of tomorrow. Mouthblown from glass and hand-painted this Christmas tree decoration combines an old artisanry with modern trends.
